A Message…

I love this City.  The neighborhoods, the people, the stories, and most of all the feeling of pride that comes from every street…every corner.  It’s what makes Leominster so special.

It’s also why I’m still so excited every day to run up the front steps of City Hall. Whether it’s solving a problem for you, listening to a new idea, or just saying hi, I’ve met so many good people.  The passion that runs deep in each of you for making this City the best it can be is amazing.  And I’m so honored that you have allowed me to continue representing you as Mayor for over two decades.

Together, we’ve been able to accomplish so much.  The recent recession has forced all cities and towns to make tough decisions. With the second highest financial bond rating in Worcester County and a healthy savings account, I think our team has made the right decisions – not just for today, but for our children and grandchildren.  I appreciate you putting your faith in me to continue to lead the City through both good and bad times.  Now, as we continue to work to grow our local economy, I hope you will put your trust in me again in November.  I would be truly honored for your vote.

My favorite statement is “During times of prosperity danger lurks everywhere, growth masks waste, extravagance and inefficiency. The moment growth slows, the accumulated signs of the past are revealed all the way to the bottom line”.

Together, let’s Keep Leominster Strong!

About Dean

Mayor Dean J. Mazzarella was first elected Mayor in 1993. Prior to his run for Mayor, he was a ten-year veteran of the Leominster Police Department and has been a small business owner in the City for more than 25 years. The son of the late Joseph Mazzarella and Ida (Lanza), Dean was born and raised in the City of Leominster alongside his two brothers Marco and Frank. Dean has two grown children, Stephanie and Dean who also reside in Leominster.

Since 1993 Leominster has made remarkable progress in every corner of the City and every aspect of management. Upon taking office, Dean immediately set up a strong financial team. Over two decades, this team has seen a record of success unparalleled to other cities and towns in Massachusetts. A declining bond rating, the most important factor in determined the City’s financial strength, was turned into a strong A1 rating – the second highest in Worcester County. Almost immediately, a capital improvement list was created and $60 million in projects were underway. From water/sewer improvements, to roads, to schools, to parks and more, the list of accomplishments is many.

Dean’s philosophy on building a strong community is based on a total quality of life for the people who live and work in Leominster. Leominster was one of the first communities in Massachusetts to create an Open Space & Recreation Plan, allowing the City to access millions in grant dollars to preserve over 1000 acres of vital open space including Sholan Farms.  That same plan has allowed the City to build or rebuild nearly every park and playground in Leominster. At the same time, the team has added nine new annual events for lots of free family fun for Leominsterites and visitors.  It’s an important part of building a strong economy and community pride.
